Over the last years, Africa has traded an average of 1000 billion dollars with the world, 50% of which includes exports and 50% imports. Of course, in the past few years, the trade balance in Africa has been negative and the import rate has always been millions of dollars more than its export rate.
In recent years, an average of 600 million dollars of products have been directly exported from Iran to Africa. Not to mention some Iranian products which have been exported through the channel of other countries.
The value of exported items to African countries in the last few years is as follows: In 2012, 760 million dollars, in 2013, 860 million dollars, in 2014, 811 million dollars, in 2015, 624 million dollars, in 2016, 608 million dollars, in 2017, 776 million dollars, in 2018, 640 million dollars, in 2019, 650 million dollars, in 2020, 58 million dollars, and in the first 6 months of 2021, 573 million dollars. Also, this year’s 6-month statistics show the growth of exports from Iran to Africa.
One major portion of the export products to Africa is machine-made carpets. Every year, Avisa Carpet Company exports thousands of square meters of carpet to Africa.
Director General of the Arab-African Office of Iran Trade Development Organization: The amount of Iran’s imports from African countries in the past years has not been significant. 69 million dollars in 2012, about 92 million dollars, in 2013 about 164 million dollars, in 2014 about 286 million dollars, in 2015 about 160 million dollars, in 2016 about 100 million dollars, in 2017 about 96 million dollars, and in the last 6 months of this year it has been about 26 million dollars.
In recent times, many efforts have been made to help develop trade between African countries and Iran. This has been done through building commercial infrastructures as well as joint trade committees, holding exhibitions, sending commercial advisers to Africa, informing about Iran’s opportunities and capabilities, holding joint commercial conferences, and communicating with Iranian embassies in African countries and in Tehran
